Qdrive manufactures highly reliable, thermoacoustic Stirling (pulse tube) cryocoolers for a variety of OEM and R&D applications. Each unit is driven by two of Qdrive's renowned STAR™ linear reciprocating motors with clearance seal pistons, providing wear free operation with no required lubrication. The dual opposed motor/piston design within the pressure wave generator (PWG) is naturally balanced, reducing vibration and noise generated by our systems.
Qdrive's design is completely absent of cold moving parts or seals, eliminating maintenance that is required of most other technologies. When mass loading at the cooled point is of concern, Qdrive offers a remote coldhead system (Flexibly Attached Remote, or FAR), separating the PWG from the cryogenic coldhead, which further reduces vibration. To improve power consumption and increase versatility, each is designed to be adjusted “on-the-fly” to match varying cooling load requirements. These advantages are accompanied by competitive pricing in both small and large quantities, making Qdrive cryocoolers ideal not only for laboratory use but also for HTS, medical, liquefaction, and military and aerospace applications.
Chart/Qdrive has developed its patented linear motor technology for gas compression, Stirling, pulse tube, cryocooler and thermoacoustic cycle applications since 1991. Our STAR™ linear motors and alternators are recognized worldwide for their robustness, value, and compact construction. They are offered in seven standard models, sized from 100 to 10,000 watts. We have demonstrated performance and impedance matching predictive capabilities with these machines against pulse tube, Stirling, thermoacoustic, and valved compression loads. We know of no other supplier with ready designs or similar experience, range, and capability in oil-free linear motor resonant machinery.
