LNG to Power

Chart offers complete LNG solutions bringing clean burning natural gas power to off-grid locations and to augment pipeline supply for peak loading or emergency back-up.

LNG Value Chain

Chart regasification stations, also referred to as LNG Satellite Stations, are complete systems that incorporate LNG storage, vaporization, pressure regulation and control systems to deliver natural gas at the point of use. Chart has provided solutions for enterprises of all sizes and we utilize our experience and expertise by working with clients to engineer a complete system that best meets their requirements for a seamless transition to natural gas power. Regardless of capacity, the model is essentially the same and mimics the familiar supply solution of diesel, propane and other LPGs. Liquid fuel is delivered, typically by road, to the site where it is off-loaded and stored. The LNG virtual pipeline is the term used to describe the transport of LNG from its source, which can be an import terminal, distribution hub or liquefaction plant. Chart also manufactures the cryogenic distribution containers for road, water and rail distribution for a completely integrated, intermodal solution.

Regasification stations are configured according to any storage and demand requirements and can feature single or multiple storage tanks, which can be vertically or horizontally oriented. However, all Chart stations are modularized around shop built and tested units for reduced cost and schedule, easier installation with reduced civil and site work and to allow for capacity expansions as required.

Where there is insufficient or unreliable pipeline capacity, Chart regasification stations are an excellent solution for peak-shaving to meet additional load requirements and seasonal variations, as emergency back-up during outages and for an immediate response to curtailment. This solution is far more efficient than diesel or LPG back-up as the enterprise is simply using stored natural gas to augment pipeline natural gas and can utilize the same delivery system.

Six horizontal tanks provide almost ½ million gallons of LNG storage at a diamond mine in Canada providing natural gas as the primary fuel source for seven 2.1 MW generator sets. Despite the extreme climatic conditions, the project was completed on schedule.

This compact regasification station is the first of its kind in Mexico. Located around 45 minutes away from Queretaro it is enabling a local agricultural business to use natural gas in their greenhouse operations. It was supplied as a skid mounted, fully factory assembled and tested package for single truck transport and crane lift, and is fully automated with cellular monitoring and control. Chart engineers completed site installation and commissioning inside two days.

Drilling sites are fast-paced and unpredictable and demands can change in minutes, which is why, when asked to help a client convert fueling of their drill rigs to natural gas, Chart’s solution was designed to enable them to handle flow and pressure variations quickly and efficiently. The system provides a continuous supply of natural gas to power generator sets used on oil and gas drill rigs and comprises a 15,000 gallon LNG storage tanker trailer with integrated vaporization, system controls and an offloading pump – an all-in-one package that significantly reduces the footprint of the drill rig. The system is designed to operate in all weathers and climates and totally uninterrupted, even when refilling, and accepts deliveries of full tanker loads, which saves on transportation and fuel supply costs.
